in popular destinations this Christmas and New Year’s
TripAdvisor can reveal
where the bargains are for families and groups travelling over Christmas and
New Year’s in a comparison of holiday rental and hotel costs. Our study looks at the average cost of
accommodation for a week’s stay in a two-bedroom holiday rental, as well as a
week’s stay in two bedrooms in a three-star hotel, in domestic and
international destinations popular with British travellers. The results
show that travellers can cut costs by up to 70% by choosing to stay in a
holiday rental property rather than a hotel.
Those staying in popular UK destinations will find the biggest savings in Cumbria, North Wales and
Dorset, where a one-week stay in a two-bedroom rental property comes in at 70%,
63% and 56% respectively cheaper than two rooms in a three-star hotel.
Travellers heading abroad can most
substantially cut accommodation costs by choosing holiday rental properties in
Central Florida, Provence or Barcelona where the savings over hotel rooms come
in 52%, 40% and 38% respectively.
